The Bretton Woods Agreement was negotiated in July 1944 by the economics powers at that time to establish a new international monetary system. Under the new Bretton Woods System, gold was identified as a fixed exchange rate for currencies to make trade among countries easier. This system ended in 1971, when the United States would no longer use gold for dollars.
