Index of Consumer Sentiment (ICS) is a consumer confidence index published monthly by the University of Michigan. Each month at least 500 households are interviewed on their financial conditions and attitudes about the economy. Consumer sentiment is highly correlated to the strength of consumer spending. In economic reports, consumer sentiment refers to the Michigan survey while consumer confidence refers to The Conference Board’s survey. They are different measures to reflect consumer attitudes.
